The article assesses the relevance of the artist Emilio Prini within the broader issues which were distinctive of the new avant-garde emerging in the visual arts in the late 1960s. By focusing on a group of works realized between 1967 and 1969, the essay aims to position Prini's work at the very core of the interest in re-mediation by means of which artists strived to establish a connection between art and life which was more fluid and less categorized than the formal solutions explored until then. By virtue of the analysis of works which have been unknown so far and archival documents, the essay investigates the work of Prini from a multi-layered perspective, combining art history, visual studies and the main cultural sources of the discussion surrounding the tenets of visual arts back then.
