Feliciano e la matematica

MS Florence, B.M.L. Ashburnham 354, is a composite volume of three constituent elements and transmits texts of practical mathematics in use in the Veneto area. This contribution identifies Feliciano as the copyist who assembled and transcribed what is now the second section of a treatise on roots and a treatise on geometry, which is dama- ged and has lacunae. A reconstruction of the original contents of the MS is offered, based on comparison with other MSS which are recognised for the first time as inden- tical in their contents. This new autograph MS of the humanist from Verona deserves attention not simply because it can be dated to his earliest period of activity on palaeo- graphical grounds, but because it brings to light another of Feliciano’s interests, mathe- matics and geometry, which can be related to his researches for the composition of the famous ‘Alphabetum Romanum’ (Vat. Lat. 6852).
