Abstract

Urban Heritage and Climate Change. Issues and Challenges volume is dealing with climate change and the new trends to reduce urban risks in historic cities. How we cope with urban changes in historic cities? To respond significantly to the current scenarios, sustainable and resilient planning and design must lead positively to these changes. At the same time, protection, and revitalization of ′Urban Heritage′ of outstanding value should be emphasized on properly climate change adaptation methods. To link Urban Greening with Urban Design and to help maximize not only the aesthetic of the Historic City but also the functionality and quality of an urban space, Urban Green Infrastructure must be considered to support both long-term and short-term sustainability and environmental resilience goals as well. Part I - Resilient Responses for Historic Environment at Risk discusses on how research findings must be essential to evaluate existing condition of a site within sensitive historic environment. In turn, a comprehensive planning and design framework to be shaped by critical resilience strategies must be based on sustainable placemaking, nature-based Infrastructure and connectivity. Part II - A Call to Action tries to identify a comprehensive methodology that is mainly based on both qualitative and quantitative analyses and evaluations of strategies and actions to be adopted on preservation, reused and protection of cultural heritage to face climate change. To gather perceptions on a wide range of issues including urban legibility, accessibility, bulding design improvement, enviromental awareness it is important to observing activities in different types of contexts and under different climate conditions.
