The virtual reconstruction of the Gothic tribune in the church of San Venanzio in Fabriano, published in 2021, was based on a survey and study of the architecture as well as an integrated interpretation of the spaces and paintings, which enabled us to establish the positions of the altars within the chapels and the correct order of the fresco cycles in the chapels of San Lorenzo and Santa Croce, bearing in mind the importance of the close relationship between frescoes and their surrounding architecture. This approach could also be tried out in other Fabriano churches housing fourteenth-century fresco cycles and whoseMediaeval appearance has been concealed by later additions, such as Santa Lucia Novella (the chapel of San Michele and Sant’Orsola) and Sant’Agostino (the chapels with the StoriesStories of Saint Augustine and Stories of SaintMaryMagdalene). The paper ends by briefly considering the cycle of Saint Thomas in the abbey church of Santa Croce near Sassoferrato, probably by Franceschino di Francesco, and some other fourteenth-century cycles in theMarches, whose narrative strategies have yet to be studied in relation to their contexts.

Abstract
The paper ends by briefly considering the cycle of Saint Thomas in the abbey church of Santa Croce near Sassoferrato, probably by Franceschino di Francesco, and some other fourteenth-century cycles in theMarches, whose narrative strategies have yet to be studied in relation to their contexts.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
