The growing sector of smart and autonomous systems has been experiencing a major evolution in the last few years through the structural convergence of powerful hardware platforms and disruptive learning techniques. This convergence has rapidly changed the landscape of many technological applications in many domains, leading to systems with autonomous capabilities of making decisions and performing tasks. Autonomous cars and robotic frameworks are the first examples of autonomous systems. For the near future, even more complexity is envisaged by embracing, for instance, swarms of drone operations, shared\distributed intelligence remote operation technologies capable of augmenting human manipulation, locomotion, and sensing capabilities, and also manned/uncrewed teaming and interoperability operations across different scenarios.
