A square four element array is enhanced with parasitic elements to reduce inter-element coupling on both principal planes. This is a first step in devising large reduced-coupling arrays for smart antennas able to effectively scan over wide angles. Particular attention is devoted to make the parasitic elements compact so as to allow a tight packing of radiating elements to avoid grating lobes in scanning.

Abstract
