Il ruolo dell’università per il contrasto delle discriminazioni sessiste e la promozione della parità. Uno studio di caso presso l’Ateneo fiorentino

La constatazione di continuare a vivere all’interno di una società patriarcale è suffragata quotidianamente dagli atti di violenza che colpiscono, in particolare, bambine, ragazze e donne mettendone a dura prova i percorsi esistenziali dentro e fuori i contesti familiari (Terre des hommes, 2023). Le violenze di genere sono la risultante di una cultura e di un sistema sociale in cui permangono forti disequilibri di potere tra donne e uomini, asimmetrie che si insinuano nelle relazioni a partire dalle idee e dalle parole che vengono utilizzate comunemente negli scambi comunicativi e nei rapporti, sia privati che pubblici, tra le persone (EIGE, 2023). Secondo i dati provvisori maggiogiugno 2023 rilevati dall’ISTAT rispetto agli stereotipi di genere e all’immagine sociale della violenza, tra gli intervistati «il 48,7% ha ancora almeno uno stereotipo sulla violenza sessuale. Il 39,3% degli uomini pensa che una donna possa sottrarsi a un rapporto sessuale se davvero non lo vuole e quasi il 20% pensa che la violenza sia provocata dal modo di vestire delle donne». Purtroppo, queste false credenze circolano ovunque interessando non solo i contesti non formali e informali, ma anche i luoghi preposti all’educazione e alla formazione delle nuove generazioni, tra cui scuola e università. Il presente contributo intende riflettere sul ruolo che le università ricoprono nel promuovere la cultura della parità e del rispetto tra i/le giovani a partire dall’analisi delle percezioni che gli/le studenti hanno in merito alle politiche di genere, alle azioni formative e ai servizi erogati negli spazi universitari. La riflessione prende le mosse dagli esiti di una ricerca empirica di tipo esplorativo condotta presso l’Ateneo fiorentino a cui hanno partecipato su base volontaria 390 studenti iscritti principalmente ad una laurea triennale dell’area umanistica e della formazione. I risultati, seppur non generalizzabili, mostrano una discreta soddisfazione delle/degli studenti per l’attenzione che i corsi di studio e i/le docenti hanno verso le questioni di genere mentre appaiono meno edotti sulle politiche, le azioni positive e i servizi che l’Ateneo promuove a livello generale di sistema. The fact that we live in a patriarchal society is continually supported by the acts of violence that, on a daily basis, affect girls and women, putting a strain on their lives both within and outside the familiar environment (Terre des hommes, 2023). Gender-based violence is the result of a culture and a social system still characterised by an imbalance of power between men and women, by asymmetries that creep into human relationships through the ideas and the words normally used by people in their communication and in their public and personal relations (EIGE, 2023). According to the provisional May-June 2023 data concerning gender stereotypes and the social image of sexual violence collected by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT), among the respondents «48,7% still have at least a stereotype about sexual violence. 39,3% of men think that women can avoid a sexual intercourse if they really want to and almost 20% think that violence is caused by the way women dress». Unfortunately, false beliefs of this sort circulate everywhere, affecting not only formal and informal situations, but also those places that are responsible for the education of new generations, like schools and universities. This paper aims at analysing the role of universities in the promotion of gender equality and respect, considering the opinions that young people have about the gender policy, the training actions and the services provided in the university environment. Our reflections are based on an exploratory empirical research conducted by the University of Florence, in which 390 students participated on a voluntary basis. The majority of them are studying for a bachelor’s degree in Humanities or Education. Even though they cannot be generalised, results show that students are quite satisfied by the attention that their professors and their courses of study pay to gender issues, while they are less informed about the policies, the positive actions and the services regarding these questions that are promoted by the University at a more general level.
