La biblioteca Méjanes Allumettes di Aix-en-Provence

The Bibliothèque Méjanes Allumettes is the main branch of the local library network in Aix-en-Provence. Since 1989, it has been housed in the architectural structure of a former match factory, recognizable by the entrance portal featuring three standard works of French literature. Since 1993, it has been the heart of the Cité du Livre. The library is currently undergoing a complete renovation to improve safety, energy efficiency, and to reorganize the space to meet the needs of a modern library. A significant government investment is supporting the renovation, as the library is included on the ministerial list of Digital Reference Libraries, considered strategic for citizens' digital literacy and inclusion through technology. The article presents the library and its services, as well as the renovation project, based also on interviews with librarians conducted on-site.
