La «politica» della santità agostiniana e il caso dei santi valdelsani

The article inserts the expression of Augustinian holiness in Valdelsa within the cultural specificity of the Order’s fourteenth-century identity construction based on the pre-eminence of the group of Tuscan friars. It therefore shows that the dy- namics relating to local saints can be understood within the framework of the history of Augustinian institutions in Valdelsa. The Augustinian saints are therefore ei- ther saints linked to hospitals and care, because this is what the Augustinian friars did, or saints linked to the recovery of women’s experiences within ecclesiastical institutions. This demonstration is based on the analysis of the most appropriate case studies: from Bartolo da San Gimignanno to Verdiana da Castelfiorentino.
