Urologists and kidney transplantation: the residents' perspective

The involvement of urologists in kidney transplantation (KT) programs is extremely heterogeneous across European Countries.1 Yet, urologists are heavily contributing to this field from several perspectives (i.e. organ procurement, KT from living and deceased donors, robot-assisted kidney transplantation, management of urological complications after KT, etc.).1-4 To foster the mission of the European Association of Urology (EAU) to keep this challenging field within the urologists’ expertise, proper training of future generations of KT urological surgeons is paramount. However, there is currently lack of evidence on the contemporary exposure, interest and involvement of European Urology residents in KT.
