The paper offers a new codicological description and palaeographical analysis of ms. Holkham Hall, Library of the Earl of Leicester, 530 (witness H of the ‘Convivio’ in the Ageno edition), that a hitherto almost ignored colophon assigns to Antonio di Mario, one of the most elegant and prolific scribes of fifteenth-century Florence. An up-to-date list of his 84 book and documentary autographs is provided (some brought to light for the first time) and a reconstruction of his early graphic education in the system of the “littera moderna”, both formal and cursive, is presented. Based on these elements, a circumstantiated proposal for dating the Holkham ms. to the middle of the second decade of the fif- teenth century is offered, revealing its relationship with the milieu of the Florentine chancery, immedi- ately after Coluccio Salutati’s death
