Elizabeth Jennings has been described as 'the baddest bitch on television', while the series has been reviewed as a drama that is 'as much about the war on normative gender roles as anything else'. Pretending to be the ideal American woman, the Soviet spy adopts a perfect 'cover' both through marriage and by becoming a mother. The reversal of roles is always present: Elizabeth remains loyal to Soviet ideals, while her husband is attracted to the American way of life. The path Elizabeth takes with her family (and especially her children) is the exact opposite of what we expect from a mother, but it fits perfectly with the idea of the enemy.

Abstract
Elizabeth Jennings has been described as 'the baddest bitch on television', while the series has been reviewed as a drama that is 'as much about the war on normative gender roles as anything else'. Pretending to be the ideal American woman, the Soviet spy adopts a perfect 'cover' both through marriage and by becoming a mother. The reversal of roles is always present: Elizabeth remains loyal to Soviet ideals, while her husband is attracted to the American way of life. The path Elizabeth takes with her family (and especially her children) is the exact opposite of what we expect from a mother, but it fits perfectly with the idea of the enemy.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
