The theme of the imaginary has been explored from various disciplinary perspectives, encompassing fields such as psychology, sociology and cultural studies. Despite this rich framework of analysis, there remains a notable gap in understanding the power dynamics that underpin the images that constitute the imaginary. This work aims to address this gap by examining how visual representations can reproduce social dynamics but also shape and reinforce power structures within various contexts. Specifically this article investigates the urban imaginary of Florence through the lens of young residents, exploring their perceptions and experiences of the city. It highlights alternative youth representations that challenge the two dominant images of Florence as a Renaissance city and Florence smart city. Using a qualitative approach based on semi-structured interviews and images, the study examines how young people navigate and interpret the urban environment. The findings reveal a complex, multifaceted urban imaginary shaped by art, culture, tourism, gentrification, sustainability, environment and the need for social spaces. The article concludes by stressing the importance of acknowledging the diverse perspectives and narratives that shape the urban imaginary, particularly those of marginalized groups such as youth.

Abstract
The article concludes by stressing the importance of acknowledging the diverse perspectives and narratives that shape the urban imaginary, particularly those of marginalized groups such as youth.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
