The contribution shows the underground of Pitigliano (Grosseto, Toscana) in the tuff area of northern Tuscia. The urban centre, in addition to having a characteristic formation at the top of a tufaceous rock cliff, has rooms excavated and organized on three levels in its subsoil. These rooms are located along the perimeter of the spur and today they are mostly reused as cellars. The parallelism is then created between the residential site of Pitigliano and the tufaceous spur of Poggio Strozzoni, which has similar morphological characteristics and a history that sees it used for productive, quarrying, and milling activities until it became the hunting park of the Orsini family. By relating these two realities, it is proposed to read them in a close subsidiary relationship, such as to define a broader twin-type settlement. The horizon that could be opened for research could lead us to better understand the settlement logics, perhaps even of an Etruscan type.

Abstract
The horizon that could be opened for research could lead us to better understand the settlement logics, perhaps even of an Etruscan type.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
