Reading aloud in the family from an early age plays a key role in the cognitive, emotional and relational development of children. Numerous international studies confirm the benefits of early exposure to books, especially when mediated by an adult figure within the home context. This paper presents the first results of a research-action-training project conducted by the University of Florence as part of the regional initiative “Leggere: Forte! Reading aloud increases intelligence”, aimed at promoting reading practices in family settings in collaboration with ECEC staff working in three educational zones in Tuscany: Pistoia, Prato and Florence. The objective of the investigation was to foster awareness in parents of the importance of reading aloud, strengthening the educational alliance between families and services. Using a qualitative-quantitative approach, the research analyzed parents’ perceptions and habits in order to gain a closer understanding of reading experiences within families. The results showed parents’ awareness of the benefits of this activity for their children by positively influencing their development and growth.
