Jurassic Park: The Lost World of Antennas

Following the earliest experiments on wireless applications, there was a race, most notably led by Guglielmo Marconi, striving for longer distances, that called for low frequencies and enormous transmitting powers. In physical size, the antennas built dwarfed modern ones, except in a few very specific applications. Sadly, with a single notable exception, these enormous installations of the pioneering days of wireless have been dismantled, with very few remains, typically just concrete basements, still marking the landscape. In this contribution, a few of the most notable ones are collected in some sort of archaeological park.
