A space can be interpreted through its signs. Works of art or architecture can aid in understanding a location, as well as measuring it, or even rewriting it. The contribution addresses the theme of interpreting space through small-scale interventions in open space. The theme is introduced through the perspective offered by contemporary art, as seen in the works of Mauro Staccioli in the Volterra countryside of Tuscany (2006) and Ettore Sottsass in the Pyrenees (1972-1979). The paper explores the concept of a device and examines examples of spatial interpretation in contemporary architecture. It focuses on the work of the Chilean studio Pezo von Ellrichshausen, particularly the pavilions constructed in south-central Chile. These installations are designed as architectural follies, proposing a unique way to experience the space. They aim to physically and intellectually engage with the environment, understanding how it occupies and transforms the area.
