H-BIM models as a cognitive system for studying the complexities of Sanmicheli's fortified heritage

This study explores the application of HBIM to structure descriptive information models for analysing and understanding military architecture's characteristics and compositional rules in the works of the Sanmicheli, engineers serving the Serenissima Republic of Venice. Based on digital survey practices and the study of iconographic sources, this analysis focuses on fortified systems related to their work in the Eastern Mediterranean basin: Porta di Terraferma and the defensive system of Zara, as well as the Fortress of San Nicolò in Šibenik, Croatia, and the Fortress of Sant’Andrea in Venice, Italy.
