The forty years of interaction between Cuba and the Soviet Union have given life to a lasting influence that –beyond thepolitical and economic sphere –has marked Cuban society and also its language. The sovietisms, that peculiar kind of realiathat became necessary to describe the life and reality of the Soviet Union, in revolutionary Cuba –a unique casein the Spanish-speaking world –are gradually coming to describe the island's own reality.In this paper we will focus on the sovietismsof philosophical derivation (i.e.: proletarian solidarity, socialist competition, Leninist standardetc.) since Soviet Marxism-Leninism marks in Cuba not only the official ideology, but also the very daily life of the population.
