Memoria e riutilizzo dello spazio funerario in epoca etrusca: alcuni casi dall’Etruria settentrionale

This paper explores the role of memory in Etruscan culture, focusing on how memory was preserved, transmitted, and represented in Etruscan society, despite the absence of a literary tradition. It examines the concept of collective memory, especially through material culture such as tombs, monuments, and artifacts, which served as tangible symbols of memory. The paper also discusses the distinction between intrinsic memory (personal items and heirlooms) and extrinsic memory (structures and markers), and how tombs, whether monumental or reused, acted as repositories of collective memory. Finally, the study touches on the paradoxical destruction or sealing of tombs as an act that can reinforce their symbolic importance, and the ritual practices associated with memory preservation through offerings and the reuse of funerary spaces.
