Giorgio Fazio, Giovanni Mari and Leonard Mazzone discuss the essays collected in the volume Freedom and Work?, edited by Enrico Donaggio, José Rose and Mariagrazia Cairo. Fazio sheds light on the main transformations of work, investigating the possible links between work and freedom within a democratized organization of work that provides an alternative to the neoliberal exaltation of work as human capital. Mari develops the core elements of a politics of freedom of work, based on pursuing of human freedom from necessity through productivity, from subjugation through the democratization of workplaces and from profit obsession through a fair social division of labour. Mazzone explores the so-called eleutheric potential of work by rejecting the opposing reactions to the neoliberal narrative, such as the reactionary glorification of work and its libertarian demonizations.
