Architectures of the frontier and the defence of territory: interpreting the fort of San Nicolò through digital documentation

The Fort of San Nicolò, located at the entrance to the St. Anthony Channel in Šibenik, serves as an emblematic case study for examining the relationship between military architecture and the aquatic landscape. Constructed in the sixteenth century by the Venetian Republic to counter Ottoman expansion, the fort stands on a sandy islet, reflecting settlement strategies shaped by coastal morphology and defensive requirements. As part of a broader project to document Venetian fortifications in Croatia, a detailed architectural survey of the Fort of San Nicolò was conducted using digital surveying technologies.
