The historiographical debate on the relationship between photography and cinema has been crucial for understanding how the two media shared languages and aesthetics throughout the 20th century. However, specific studies addressing this dialogue within the Italian context of the 1920s and 1930s remain scarce, despite its pivotal role in shaping modern visual culture. This paper investigates the Italian discourse on cinema as a model for the development of a modern photographic aesthetic, situating it within broader European and international discussions on the New Vision. It also explores the visual interplay between the two media, with particular emphasis on the central role of print publications in disseminating filmic imagery.

Abstract
The historiographical debate on the relationship between photography and cinema has been crucial for understanding how the two media shared languages and aesthetics throughout the 20th century. However, specific studies addressing this dialogue within the Italian context of the 1920s and 1930s remain scarce, despite its pivotal role in shaping modern visual culture. This paper investigates the Italian discourse on cinema as a model for the development of a modern photographic aesthetic, situating it within broader European and international discussions on the New Vision. It also explores the visual interplay between the two media, with particular emphasis on the central role of print publications in disseminating filmic imagery.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
