A Rural Center on the Silk Road. Introduction to an inter-disciplinary study of the village Yeghegis

Il contributo introduce il volume dedicato a Yeghegis, centro rurale medievale dell’Armenia meridionale, analizzato come nodo attivo delle Silk Road(s). Attraverso un approccio interdisciplinare, il libro integra storia, archeologia, architettura ed epigrafia, valorizzando metodologie innovative come la Light Archaeology. I saggi mettono in luce le dinamiche locali e le loro connessioni eurasiatiche tra IX e XIV secolo. Yeghegis emerge così come laboratorio privilegiato per lo studio delle interazioni tra paesaggio, potere e mobilità. ENG This chapter introduces the volume devoted to Yeghegis, a medieval rural center in southern Armenia, examined as an active node within the Silk Road(s). Through an interdisciplinary approach, the book integrates history, archaeology, architecture, and epigraphy, highlighting innovative methodologies such as Light Archaeology. The contributions explore local dynamics and their Eurasian connections between the ninth and fourteenth centuries. Yeghegis thus emerges as a key case study for understanding landscape, power, and mobility.
