The Ebla “Chancery” Texts from L.2769, L.2875 and L.2712

This paper examines a group of non-administrative cuneiform texts from Palace G at Ebla (24th century BC) known as “chancery” texts. These include letters, treaties, cultic and legal documents, and property records, primarily from room L.2769 and published in several ARET (Archivi Reali di Ebla. Testi) volumes. The texts are categorized into eight thematic sections covering internal affairs, and international relations: 1) letters from the king and Eblaite officials, 2) cultic texts, 3) allocations of landed property and inspections of the Palace, 4) legal procedures, 5) letters and texts from other city-states, 6) agreements between city-states, 7) a Mari narrative text, and 8) medical texts. They offer valuable insights into Ebla’s political, social, and cultural life.
