Individuo, democrazia, tecnologia. Nuove forme di potere tecnologico e crisi della democrazia

New technologies constitute new powers and new forms of power that intersect the crisis of democracy by accentuating the existing complexity. The impact of technology on democracy can be grasped by referring, on the one hand, to its incidence in the processes of subjectification and, on the other, in the challenge it poses to democracy as a «project of order» aimed at reducing social and environmental complexity. Through the analysis of the importance of power in the definition of subjectivity, the cornerstone of any political theory, the various forms of power exercised by technology towards individuals and society will be reviewed to grasp, finally, the risks that the politics of technology, especially algorithmic technology, poses to democracy by emphasizing, moreover, its inextricable link with complexity.
