Energy efficiency represents the “first fuel” of the energy transition: a fuel that does not run out, is abundantly available, and easy to access. The principle of energy effi- ciency has been assigned a central role in achieving the climate-change mitigation objectives set out in the Green Deal. This article provides an overview of the measures adopted at both the European Union and national levels for the implemen- tation of this principle.
