Maschera: storie di un oggetto teatrale

Il saggio è citato nella selettiva Bibliografia del prestigioso volume The Pronomos Vase and its Context, a cura di O. TAPLIN e R. WYLES, New York, Oxford University Press, 2010, p. 276. Abstract: La storia della scena antica (e moderna) è storia globale e contestuale di un sistema complesso di relazioni e di processi. In quest’ottica, unitaria e multilineare, sono qui riconsiderati alcuni momenti salienti della storia del prósopon, accessorio essenziale per l’attore greco ed ellenistico. Un’attenzione particolare è dedicata alle maschere del dramma tragico e satiresco, utilizzando proficuamente le tante inestimabili testimonianze figurative (tra le quali il fondamentale vaso di Pronomos) e ponendole in rapporto con gli aspetti produttivi e di fruizione degli eventi teatrali in Ellade tra il V e il III secolo a. C. Ne risulta – dal punto di vista metodologico – che le “drammaturgie” della maschera teatrale non possono essere scisse dall'attore, dal costume e dall’azione agita davanti a un determinato pubblico in determinati spazi, e in vari contesti geografici e storici. The History of the Ancient (and Modern) Stage is a global and contextual history of a complex system of relations and processes. Within this unitary and multilinear perspective, some salient moments of the history of the prósopon, an essential prop of the greek and hellenistic actor, are here reconsidered. A particular attention is devoted to the tragic and the satirical drama masks, taking the best advantage of several invaluable figurative witnesses (among which the fundamental Pronomos Vase) by putting them into relation with both production and fruition aspects of the theatrical event in Hellas between the 5th and the 3rd century BC. As a result – on the methodological point of view – we may see how the “dramaturgies” of the theatrical mask cannot be parted from the performer, from the costume and from the action played to an audience in always differently shaped spaces, and in various geographical and historical contexts.
