This report is the result of the second phase of the PRIN PNRR 2022 REPOLITY research project—Reforming Police Accountability in Italy—aimed at collecting and analyzing the key data on police accountability available in Italy. The report presents and comments on data from a quantitative empirical study on certain crimes indicative of police misconduct, as well as research on the case law of the Court of Cassation regarding these same crimes. It also analyzes the Italian response to police misconduct in light of the case law of the European Court of Human Rights.
