Digital documentation of commerce spaces is crucial in safeguarding and enhancing urban heritage’s cultural and social value. This study focuses on the historic centre of Florence, where traditional market activities contribute significantly to the identity and vitality of the city. It examines two emblematic commercial areas of the city: the San Lorenzo and Sant’Ambrogio markets. These markets serve economic functions and foster community interaction and cultural continuity. The research applies a multi-layer documentation methodology combining urban-scale analysis with detailed surveys of individual vendor structures. Tools such as GIS, integrated photo- grammetric and laser scanning surveys, and structured data sheets were used to produce 2D and 3D models. These outputs provide valuable insights into spatial organization, architectural features, and the socio-cultural dynamics of public markets. Moreover, the project supports heritage management and planning through practical applica- tions, including digital platforms for real-time use by vendors and visitors. The study demonstrates how innovative technologies, and systematic documentation can promote more sustainable and inclusive management of historic urban commercial spaces. Ultimately, this integrated approach is proposed as a replicable model for similar contexts across European historic centres.

Abstract
Ultimately, this integrated approach is proposed as a replicable model for similar contexts across European historic centres.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
