The essay critically examines ‘urban regeneration’ as a central paradigm in the processes through which urban space is transformed, taking the concept of the ‘right to the city’ as its interpretive key. The analysis reconstructs ‘regeneration’ as a device capable of profoundly affecting the conditions of access to, and the forms of permanence within, the space of the ‘city’, engaging critically with the current configuration of urban policies, which are marked by a neoliberal rationality and substantially oriented towards objectives of economic valorisation, competitiveness, and territorial attractiveness. Its aim is to question, starting from its normative framework, the actual function of ‘urban regeneration’ within the processes of transformation of ‘urban space’, in which the ‘right to the city’ becomes a critical category through which to assess the consistency of regenerative policies with the demands of equality, inclusion, and spatial justice.

Abstract
The essay critically examines ‘urban regeneration’ as a central paradigm in the processes through which urban space is transformed, taking the concept of the ‘right to the city’ as its interpretive key. The analysis reconstructs ‘regeneration’ as a device capable of profoundly affecting the conditions of access to, and the forms of permanence within, the space of the ‘city’, engaging critically with the current configuration of urban policies, which are marked by a neoliberal rationality and substantially oriented towards objectives of economic valorisation, competitiveness, and territorial attractiveness. Its aim is to question, starting from its normative framework, the actual function of ‘urban regeneration’ within the processes of transformation of ‘urban space’, in which the ‘right to the city’ becomes a critical category through which to assess the consistency of regenerative policies with the demands of equality, inclusion, and spatial justice.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
