Ricordo di Piero Fiorelli

L’articolo ricostruisce il profilo scientifico e umano di Piero Fiorelli, storico del diritto e studioso della lingua giuridica, mettendo in luce l’originale intreccio tra ricerca storico-giuridica, linguistica e lessicografica che caratterizza tutta la sua produzione. A partire dalla formazione con Francesco Calasso e dal dialogo con Bruno Migliorini, il contributo evidenzia come Fiorelli abbia sviluppato un metodo fondato sull’analisi storica delle parole del diritto, intese come accesso privilegiato ai concetti, agli istituti e alle pratiche giuridiche. Particolare rilievo è dato ai suoi studi sulla tortura giudiziaria nel diritto comune, alla riflessione sui rapporti tra storia giuridica e storia linguistica, all’attività lessicografica e istituzionale svolta presso il CNR, la Treccani e l’Accademia della Crusca. Il ricordo mostra così Fiorelli come figura esemplare di studioso capace di coniugare rigore filologico, sensibilità storica, competenza giuridica e impegno civile. The article reconstructs the scholarly and human profile of Piero Fiorelli, a legal historian and scholar of legal language, highlighting the original interplay between legal-historical, linguistic, and lexicographical research that characterizes his entire body of work. Starting from his training under Francesco Calasso and his dialogue with Bruno Migliorini, the contribution shows how Fiorelli developed a method based on the historical analysis of the words of law, understood as a privileged point of access to legal concepts, institutions, and practices. Particular emphasis is placed on his studies of judicial torture in the ius commune, his reflections on the relationship between legal history and linguistic history, and his lexicographical and institutional work with the CNR, Treccani, and the Accademia della Crusca. The article thus presents Fiorelli as an exemplary scholar, capable of combining philological rigor, historical sensitivity, legal expertise, and civic commitment.
