The article reports the results of a pilot randomized trial in patients with type 2 diabetes on insulin treatment, reporting that acupuncture, as compared to sham, reduces daily insulin doses. This suggests that acupuncture could have an insulin-sensitizing effect, to be verified through larger scale clinical trials using more accurate methods for the determination of insulin sensitivity.

Abstract

The article reports the results of a pilot randomized trial in patients with type 2 diabetes on insulin treatment, reporting that acupuncture, as compared to sham, reduces daily insulin doses. This suggests that acupuncture could have an insulin-sensitizing effect, to be verified through larger scale clinical trials using more accurate methods for the determination of insulin sensitivity.
