This paper, after briefly illustrating the history of the former Colonial Museum, will focus on the ways in which, in the Museum, fascist colonial propaganda was fully implemented in a multitude of different forms of representation and diverse visual practices. Secondly, this contribution will highlight the Museo Coloniale many vicissitudes since the dissolution of the Italian colonial empire, as it lends itself as a metaphor for the memory of Italian colonialism, building on the 2020 announcement of the rearrangement of the former Colonial Museum in Rome with the new name Museo Italo-Africano Ilaria Alpi.
