Abstract

It is by now well known the predominant presence of digitalization in everyone’s life. Thus, there is a need to analyze the innovative and close relationship between ‘what is already present’ and ‘the new’, defining new transdisciplinary interconnections with added values for each sector in place, and focus on a design that aims at social development in order to enhance the territory, using innovative methodologies and also referring to interdisciplinary approaches for greater sustainability of results. Sustainable changes through design directed to ‘local development’ (Magnaghi, 2010) and Urban Interaction and repair, allow applying a design where everyone can participate in the design of the city understood as a laboratory where ‘professional design’ meets ‘collective design’ (Manzini, 2015). From an initial analysis conducted in the historic center of the municipality of Borgo San Lorenzo (FI), the latest community needs related to the lack of relationship with ‘forgotten’ routes were identified. Thus, the project envisions the development of a physical and a virtual network, gathering cognitive experiences to help people inhabit their place (Norberg-Schulz, 1979). A purposeful action to activate and regenerate the spaces of togetherness, connecting the physicality of place and its user through a small-scale project of a double reality, via acupuncture interventions scattered across the territory, Urban Acupuncture (Casagrande, 2009; Lerner, 2014).
