«Abbasso il galateo!». Margherita Cattaneo tra editoria e cinema negli anni Trenta e Quaranta

Building on gender history studies of Fascist Italy and the early postwar period, as well as on a microhistorical approach, this essay explores a key figure in journalism and writing during the ’30s and ’40s: Margherita Cattaneo. It investigates her cultural engagement with cinema through a distinctive focus on both managerial and creative practices. Drawing on Cattaneo’s professional and personal correspondence, dispersed across several archival collections, and an analysis of her published writings, this study aims to foreground her nonconformist voice in relation to patriarchal gender cultures. Cinematic experience thus emerges as a means of identity negotiation and transgression of gendered norms.
