Il Mausoleo di Oljeitu a Soltaniyeh, i restauri di Piero Sanpaolesi a quindici anni dall’iscrizione nella lista del patrimonio mondiale dell’UNESCO

In this paper we present the first results of the research done on the archival documents concerning the restorations, carried out in the seventies by Piero Sanpaolesi, on the Mausoleum of Oljaytu in Soltaniyeh in Iran. This research is only one part of a larger study focusing on the comparative analysis between archival documentation and building. It was possible to investigate both the periodic reports and notes, that Sanpaolesi wrote during periodic visits to the monument, as well as correspondence with his collaborators engaged in the restoration site, and the Iranian authorities. From all these documents it was possible to reconstruct the various phases of the restoration site and the changes made to the original project, but above all detailed information on the building materials used, the construction techniques and the real structure, investigated through restoration works.
