Introducing Teatro Valle: Searching for a European Commons

This co-edited series examines the Teatro Valle Occupato in Rome as a vital blueprint for reclaiming the European commons amid the Eurozone's neoliberal economic crisis. Moving beyond the traditional binary of state-owned and privately-held property, the collective essays analyze how grassroots cultural occupations serve as acts of "constituent citizenship." The authors flip the concept of state-imposed budget cuts to propose an "austerity of the commons"—a dignified, uncompromising struggle to defend essential social, cultural, and political rights from commercial privatization.
