Non-resemblances: Strangers in their own Land, in Networking Women: Subjects, Places, Links Europe-America. Towards a Re-writing of Cultural History, 1890-1939, Edizioni di Storia e letteratura, Roma 2004. Il saggio è un capitolo del volume Networking Women: Subjects, Places, Links Europe-America. Towards a Re-writing of Cultural History, curato da Marina Camboni, che pubblica gli atti di una ricerca internazionale 40%, finanziata dal MIUR, in cui numerosi studiosi di varie discipline – per lo più critici letterari e storici, ma anche musicisti e graphic designer, hanno collaborato per fare il punto sul contributo di donne artiste e scrittrici al movimento modernista e alle avanguardie storiche. Viene ridisegnato un affresco della storia culturale, nel periodo 1890-1939, attraverso le varie connessioni internazionali e le sperimentazioni di linguaggi artistici diversi, l’attivismo sociale di alcune intellettuali, il loro impegno politico. Il libro è stato affiancato da un database inserito in un website, che ha permesso durante l’intera ricerca l’integrazione e la discussione dei lavori di tutti gli studiosi coinvolti. Il saggio di Ernestina Pellegrini, Non-resemblances: Strangers in their own Land, si sofferma su alcune figure di artiste e scrittrici triestine (Anita Pittoni, Leonor Fini, Elisa Tagliapietra Cambon, Ersilia Barzilai Gentilli, Marion e Wanda Wulz) per poi rintracciare, attraverso una ricerca in archivi pubblici e privati in Francia e negli Stati Uniti, le loro migrazioni e i loro contatti con altre intellettuali e artiste del Futurismo e del Surrealismo a livello internazionale. Il saggio fa parte di una lunga ricerca su alcune figure scrittrici e artiste che hanno fatto parte o hanno fiancheggiato le avanguardie storiche, con una ricerca in archivi pubblici e privati, che hanno portato ad altre pubblicazioni (fra le quali il saggio L’apoteosi dell’ambiguità. Cronaca di un narcisismo collettivo. Leonor Fini &C. uscito nel volume Transcodificazioni, a cura di P. Zaccaria, Meltemi, Roma, 2005, pp.47-63). Towards a Re-writing of Cultural History, edited by Marina Camboni, which publishes the proceedings of an international research, with 40% funding by the Italian Ministry for the University and Research, where many scholars of various disciplines – mainly literary and historical critics, but also musicians and graphic designers – worked together to study the contribution of women artists and writers to the modernist movement and to the historic avant-gardes. A new picture is thus drawn of cultural history in the period 1890-1939, through the various international connections and experimentations of different artistic languages, the social activism of some women intellectuals, their political commitment. The book is accompanied by a database inserted in a website, which afforded an opportunity, throughout the study, to integrate the work and facilitate discussion among all the scholars involved. Ernestina Pellegrini's essay, Non-resemblances: Strangers in their own Land, takes a look at some figures of women artists and writers of Trieste (Anita Pittoni, Leonor Fini, Elisa Tagliapietra Cambon, Ersilia Barzilai Gentilli, Marion and Wanda Wulz) and then – through research in public and private archives in France and the USA – traces their migrations and contacts with other futurist and surrealist women intellectuals and artists around the world. This essay is part of a long research on some women writers and artist who belonged to, or were close to, historic avant-gardes, with research in public and private archives, which has led to other publications (including the essay L’apoteosi dell’ambiguità.
