The newly proposed ISI had been validated in a small population of subjects with different degrees of obesity and glucose tolerance (1). In a much wider sample of obese subjects, the correlation of ISI with clinical parameters related to insulin resistance, such as low HDL cholesterol, hypertriglyceridemia, and hyperuricemia, is similar to that of HOMA-IR, suggesting that the 2 indexes could be similarly useful for the identification of subjects with metabolic syndrome. Considering its high correlation with clamp-derived measures, the new index has been proposed as a method for assessment of insulin sensitivity in epidemiological studies
