Climatic variables vary discontinuously over space and the measured values depend on the station position. Factors affecting spatial variability are essentially represented by geo-topographic characteristics of the area, land cover and soil properties. However, these factors affect variability in different ways according to the spatial scale at which the climatic variable is considered. The main aim of this work is to analyse the variability of the thermal field and its causes and, secondly, to verify the loss of information due to the passage from local scale to regional scale bioclimatic classifications.

Abstract
