A Case Study of Florence on the Use of Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing for Urban Environmental Management, Report 16441 CE, ECSC-EC-EAEC Brusssels, Luxembourg

This report describes the development of a methodological approach to the application of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) to urban environmental management. The methodology has been worked out on a specific European urban environment and on a specific prototype end user of the municipality administration. The end user oriented approach to the development of the application and its methodology are analysed from the investigation on existing data to the complete GIS application, which has been judged as very useful by the prototype end user. During the case study the use of the European Wide Service Exchange (EWSE) network created for the Centre for Earth Observation (CEO) project has been tested, achieving very good results in terms of satellite data search on European cities.
