In this paper we present a simulation of radar monitoring of maritime traffic in a particularly congested area of the Tyrrhenian sea, namely the Channel of Piombino (Italy). Under the assumption that only service ships that regularly cross the Channel are co-operating, the purpose of the simulation is to show that centralized management of traffic information collected by on board radars makes it possible to continuously monitor the whole area, with greater benefits when traffic is most intense. The same kind of simulation is then applied to the much wider area of Tyrrhenian sea between Tuscany and Corse.

Abstract
In this paper we present a simulation of radar monitoring of maritime traffic in a particularly congested area of the Tyrrhenian sea, namely the Channel of Piombino (Italy). Under the assumption that only service ships that regularly cross the Channel are co-operating, the purpose of the simulation is to show that centralized management of traffic information collected by on board radars makes it possible to continuously monitor the whole area, with greater benefits when traffic is most intense. The same kind of simulation is then applied to the much wider area of Tyrrhenian sea between Tuscany and Corse.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
