The paper first introduces the results obtained from a wide experimental campaign carried out in BLWT on a group of two neighbouring identical cooling towers, with varying distances and wind directions. Based on the measured pressure patterns, numerical analyses have been performed in order to estimate the consequences of interference on the structural response. A series of quasi-static analyses have been performed using the "influence coefficients" method. The results obtained for the various configurations have been compared with those of the isolated tower.

Abstract

The paper first introduces the results obtained from a wide experimental campaign carried out in BLWT on a group of two neighbouring identical cooling towers, with varying distances and wind directions. Based on the measured pressure patterns, numerical analyses have been performed in order to estimate the consequences of interference on the structural response. A series of quasi-static analyses have been performed using the "influence coefficients" method. The results obtained for the various configurations have been compared with those of the isolated tower.
