Contributo alla conoscenza della vegetazione dell’alta Garfagnana Appenninica (Toscana Settentrionale).

Contribution to the knowledge of the vegetation of the Alto Serchio area (northern Tuscany). – A vegetation survey of the Alto Serchio Apennine area was carried out by mean of more than 200 phytosociological relevés and literature data analysis; the description of the main vegetation types is here reported. This study was focused on the zonal vegetation and tried to take into consideration the best model of management in order to assure their conservation; in this view, the extrazonal vegetation was not studied with the same detail. Several different vegetation types were found, a new association was described (Hepatico nobilis-Fagetum) and a subassociation was raised to the association level (Luzulo pedemontane- Quercetum cerris). The lectotypification of two syntaxa was made (Cardamino heptaphyllae-Fagetum and Luzulo pedemontanae-Fagetum). The local variations of the vegetation types were studied and several local variants were recorded and described.
