The vegetation of the ‘Fosso della Rave’ basin was described, in order to improve the phytosociological knowledge of this peculiar site. The purpose of the study was to identify the locally native species most suited for some land reinstatement actions. This area, though not very large, showed a highly varied physic environment in terms of altitudal range, geology, geomorfology and soils. Consequently several vegetation types were found: mesic and acid woods (Quercetalia roboris), neutro-basic woods (Quercetalia pubescenti-petraeae), riparian woods (Populetalia), shrublands (Rhamno-Prunetea), grasslands (Molinio-Arrhenatheretea, Festuco-Brometea and Festuco-Seslerietea) and casmophytic vegetation (Asplenietea trichomanis), together with cultivated and reafforested areas. A vegetation map was reported. The local dynamic vegetation series were illustrated and some remarks about the conservation of chestnut groves in relation with different terms of human land-use activities were discussed.
