The present paper aims at showing the historical evolution of equipment for animal monitoring. Over the years many technological solutions (video systems, radio-tracking, GPS, etc.) have been adopted to monitor animal behaviour in different housing environments (individual stalls, pens, grazing areas, wooded areas, etc.). Today, thanks to RFID and other wireless technologies, the process of animal identifying or localization of specific study areas (f. e. drinking, feeding, shading areas) is becoming more precise and automatic. In the paper some study-simulations are presented in order to detect and analyze the technical applicative possibilities of fit solutions for animal monitoring in different kinds of breeding.
