Among renewable energy sources, biomass is one of the most promising. Direct combustion is one of the simplest and easiest way of using it for energy production. Concerning Italy, mostly in the northern part of the Country – with many alpine valleys rich of coniferous wood - these technologies have been implemented, while in the other parts they haven’t been applied with the same diffusion. This happened because of the higher value of the wood and the warmer winter climate in central and southern Italy. The present work studied the energetic use of the wooden biomass of Casentino, a Tuscan valley, with wide woods and many manufacturing companies such as sawmills, furniture and frames factories. Various plant options suitable for the analyzed situation were studied and we could verify how, even though such wood is of valuable kinds, it is possible to identify proper conditions of economic convenience for thermal and electrical energy production.

Abstract
Various plant options suitable for the analyzed situation were studied and we could verify how, even though such wood is of valuable kinds, it is possible to identify proper conditions of economic convenience for thermal and electrical energy production.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
