The response of sandhoppers to artificial landscapes was shown in the laboratory using wet and dry substrates. The interaction of orientation to landscape cues and the sun was analysed using artificial and natural landscapes, displacement tests and clock shifting experiments. The use of the different cues was different in the two populations tested.
