Abstract

Two Talitrus saltator populations were compared prior and after the tourism season on two Tyrrhenian sandy beaches, one located inside a natural park and the other in front of a touristic resort. The abundance was significantly less on the beach used for bathing activities after the beach grooming that used mechanical methods. However, this population apparently recovered in winter and spring. The seasonality of tourism may be an important factor for the conservation of natural beach populations.
